The cast in general were marvelous, though. I’m kind of surprised that Margo Martindale (Aunt Mattie Fay) wasn’t acknowledged for her performance, which was also strong, though minor compared to the two powerhouses. I’m not saying she deserved the Oscar over Lupita (I haven’t seen 12 Years a Slave), but she certainly earned the nomination. I said all of that to say this: She is *incredible* in this film. I am *NOT* a fan of Julia Roberts (I feel like she’s my female Nicolas Cage I like movies *in spite of* them, not *because of* them), and I think it’s insane that she won the Oscar over Ellen Burstyn in Requiem or Laura Linney in You Can Count on Me… I recently watched the film and - ugh, I don’t know how anyone could say that they “loved” it, but the acting is stellar. It’s too bad that Hollywood sometimes seems to only want to show the dark side of life…….believe it or not Hollywood…there is joy in life and one of my joys in life is reading Hooked on Houses…… I do have to agree that I like the old house, but I don’t think that will even make me want to see that movie. Also, talk about “truth in advertising”….the ads for this movie make it look like this is a comedy, but from everything I hear (even here at Hooked on Houses) and after reading the Movie Spoiler, I have no desire to spend $12.00 to see this movie….I’ll use it to buy another nick-nack for my house…LOL. So, if I want to go to a movie, I have to either go by myself or ask my kids or a friend to go with me. Also, my husband won’t go to movies anymore as he believes he spends enough on cable and that all movies will eventually come to him. I’m not only hooked on houses, I’m also hooked on movie spoilers….(I know it’s bad), but if I’m going to spend that much money to see a movie, I want to know what I’m getting. The back of the house has a screened porch.Ĭheck the listing for 329 County Road 4860 in Pawhuska, Oklahoma, for all the photos and information. The house has 5 bedrooms but only 1 bath. It was built in 1916 and sits on 22 acres. Here’s a shot of the cast in the movie sitting around the big table in the dining room: “Own a part of movie history with this Victorian Tidewater home and surround yourself with peace and tranquility! This is the property that Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts and other filmed the movie August Osage county! Production updated electrical and added security system.” The movie, which is based on a play by Tracy Letts, is “A look at the lives of the strong-willed women of the Weston family, whose paths have diverged until a family crisis brings them back to the Oklahoma house they grew up in, and to the dysfunctional woman who raised them.” The listing for the farmhouse said: The old farmhouse is standing empty and looking a little forlorn now, but I think the bones of it are beautiful. The movie was filmed on location in North-Central Oklahoma, just over the Kansas border. The new Meryl Streep-Julia Roberts movie August: Osage County was filmed on location at this 100-year old farmhouse in Pawhuska, Oklahoma.
